Updates

On October 31, 2024 Maurice Kevin O’Rourke received a life sentence for carrying a small amount of personal use medical marijuana and CBD oil with him while in transit through Dubai.

A decision on Kevins final appeal submitted on Christmas Day was deferred to January 8, 2025.

On January 8 unexpectedly the decision was delayed again until February 5, 2025 while Kevin has now spent over 6 months in detention.

This is an unbearable nightmare for the family, we are asking for compassion for him on the grounds of his Addisons disease, multiple infections and continued declining health, age and his sincere repentance.

“We cannot let up until Kevin is back home on Canadian soil again, where he belongs.”

We continue to be hopeful but we are asking Canadians, as they start the New Year, to express their concern for the first time or follow up on their previous letters about Kevin’s situation directly to their own local Member of Parliament, asking them to officially help reinforce the efforts of Global Affairs Canada.

We are appreciative and humbled by everyone who has come forward for their support and advocacy.

Thank you

How can I help bring Kevin home?

Key Message,

Kevin O'Rourke, a fellow Canadian citizen, has been in prison since July 2024 and given a life sentence in Dubai for carrying a low volume of CBD and medical marijuana, which he uses for pain management along with his medications for life threatening Addisons Disease. While in prison he contracted an antibiotic resistant infection and had two emergency surgeries and continues to have impacts from not getting the proper medications. He has fared very poorly in prison and we fear that he may die due to his illnesses and infections.

His December 25, 2024 appeal hearing resulted in another delay to Jan 8, 2025 and then a subsequent delay until Feb 5 this continues to be a nightmare for his family.

We ask for help to get him back to Canada, as soon as possible.

He is a good person and deserves your action to get him home. Kevin and his family are asking for fairness, compassion and to have Kevin returned to Canada.

Please share with your network and write the above message to your MP and our government officials.
